OKCupid.com has gone through quite a bit of rebranding over the years, and we were excited to see where it went during our last OKCupid review. Originally, the app was pretty loosely known as a place to meet people for, you know, casual fun. It was more of a place to find a friend for the weekend than to find the love of your life.
However, people have reported some success in pursuing other types of relationships with this app due to its focus on switching to an environment more akin to successful serious dating apps like eHarmony and Elite Singles.
So are these reports accurate? Well, we decided to get to the bottom of it in our latest OkCupid.com review! When you're ready to see our results, sit down and let's sit down.
Is OKCupid.com Worth It? – The Bottom Line Upfront
If you're passionate about things like gender inclusivity, hot-button political issues (like the recently added pro-choice profile icon), and you like lots of bells and whistles (available for purchase) in your dating experience, OkCupid might be worth checking out for you. In addition, most of the site can be accessed for free, and many upgrades and improvements are available for an additional fee. Some sites also report a user base size in the 50 million range, which certainly gets our attention if true (not confirmed by the company).
OKCupid.com has started to have some issues with the overall user experience. It's one of those apps where it feels like there's so much going on that you don't know where to click or what to do. Sure, it's great if you have a lot of time to devote to figuring things out, but if your main goal is to find someone special, you're likely to be disappointed.
Also, there are ads if you don't have an upgraded membership (which is annoying). You also won't be able to message anyone unless there's a mutual match, just like Tinder (owned by the same company) you do your best to get your photos and profile in the door. If you don't usually get a lot of quality posts, maybe you're not a fan of this.
And if you want to have some control over finding your matches, you won't have that option. OkCupid.com is basically a swipe-style dating app with a bunch of new bells and whistles.
What is OKCupid.com?
OKCupid is an online dating website and app (available on iOS and Android) that was founded in 2004 and is currently owned by the Match Group (owners of Tinder, Hinge, etc.). It was purchased by IAC (Match’s parent company) in 2011 for $50 million in cash.
Historically, the site has been known more as a playground for singles looking for casual dating and hookups. However, through some rebranding, the site is now attempting to target singles who are looking for something a bit more serious, as well. Your four options for relationship goals listed on OKCupid are New Friends, Short Term, Long Term, and Hookups.
Site Name(s): OKCupid, OKCupid.com

How Does OKCupid.com Work?
What was real interesting during our most recent OKCupid review was that we expected the site to be a profile-based, message-who-you-want style of dating app (like it used to be). However, somewhere in the recent years, OKCupid transitioned into a swipe dating app. Most likely this is because the owners of the site wanted to mirror the success they were having with one of their other swipe brands (Tinder).
Users are shown different profiles of other users that they can select that they like them. If the other user also selects they like you, you’re able to start messaging each other. Different from Tinder, though, is that there are a few other ways to generate initial contact like commenting on pictures and boosting your profile.
As mentioned, OKCupid operates on a mutual match system where you only hear from people who also say they like you. That means that in order to send messages, you have to go and like other users. With a free account, you are limited in the number of likes you can send out. However, with the paid accounts (Basic and Premium), you’re free to send as many likes as you want, which should inevitably help to increase your chances of a match. It does also, however, increase the chances that some people are just clicking like on everyone and only actually looking at profiles if they have a match.

Dont waste your money
Looking for company someone to go on trips going to movies going out for lunch going out for meals going out for walks in the bush having someone to tell me what to do
Need a way to sort search results by age, location, other characteristics. Carosel photo should have caption that indicates location as well as age.
This app is dangerous as hell lately. The male side is extremely predatory and there’s more than enough stories of people being sexually abused and their abusers still being kept on this site. The women side is full of pathetic little cretins begging for followers or onlyfans subs. It is, as a literal fact, 94% people posting their links now. They lie and steal your money too, they’ll drop dozens of fake likes and when you try the paid option they vanish. Imagine an app owned by a women trying to be different and safer and all this capitalist tramp cares about is money. Doesn’t kick rapists, fake profiles, pedophile bait, hundreds of underage girls, hundreds of women lying about their age. Absolutely disgusting. Use reddit to get OF followers and if you’re desperate for instagram followers?get a life or leave because it’s pathetic how desperate some of these people are
THIS APP IS A SCAM. I’ve used this site on and off for several years with no issue, but have never met anyone genuine — only men interested in hookups. As soon as I decided to bite the bullet and pay for a premium subscription, I was randomly and arbitrarily banned. I went over their guidelines repeatedly and had not broken any of them. I was kind and respectful. I represented myself authentically. I sent original messages. All of this in spite of the fact I often received suggestive and explicit messages from men and they did nothing about it. When I tried to ask WHY I was banned, they refused to say why — just took my money and refused to provide a refund. There is absolutely no way to speak to a human or customer service representative directly. They have absolutely no care for their customers and are clearly misogynistic despite proclaiming themselves to be a feminist app. RUN
This platform is very disappointing. Premium membership is a snare for people trying to date online. Frequently receive false likes from all sorts of people. The Android mobile app is buggy and unrefined. The website isn’t much better. Professional robbery.
My review is I want to cancel my subscription and then rant that I just got taking to the bank by some hoe who convinced me to register for 2 dollars and charged me 50 dollars and I still have access to nothing lol dating sites.are.not for guys Ike me
Fake profile, site app dose not work. A lot of The men are not real, they kept trying to match me with men from other countries. The free sites are way better. Don’t waste your time and money on this site.
Word of advise: take out cash from you account and burn that money or give it to some poor person or go smoke, rather than spend money it on the website.
I joined this website two weeks ago in an attempt to meet someone. What I found out was that the profiles of the members were all fake and bogus! Scammers are combing this website collecting your personal information in an attempt to do something illegal with it. Not one member was interested in chatting or getting to know me personally but would instead ask inappropriate questions about my personal life. My advice to anyone, beware of this site because your information may be in jeopardy!
This website is some kind of dead end: you go round and round in circles, keep wasting your money and nothing ever happens. I ended this pointless ” journey” with no results when I decided that it was time to stop them from taking my money and giving nothing in return. This “service” was not helpful at all. It was nothing but a time-waster.
I have been around many dating sites. This one is absolutely hands down the worst and most deceptive. I thought great unlimited chats. Why would you list unlimited chats and then charge a very very expensive per chat charge? This site needs to be shut down immediately!!!!!
Since when is it ok to go into MY account and change my name….Remove my bio….I am trying to get my money back but no answer. The same day I downloaded the app I realized it’s a bunch of bots….no real people….how does this app keep going….how do we report it….where do we go for support.
